ADA Specialists
With the incorporation of the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design, requirements were established for newly constructed or altered State and local government facilities, public accommodations, and commercial facilities to be accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities. This requirement includes swimming pools, spas and waders at ANY public facility – any facility open to the public to include health spas, fitness centers, city parks, apartment/condominium complexes, hotels/motels, HOA communities, schools and universities.
Burkett’s Pool Plastering is pleased to offer options to fulfill this requirement with the inclusion of a pool lift in your pool or spa renovation.
Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Act (VGBA)
Effective in 2008, the goal of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act was to enhance the safety of public and private pools and spas. The VGBA is helping to reduce the number of suction entrapment incidents, injuries and deaths, and reduce child drownings, along with educating the public on the importance of constant supervision of children in and around water.
It’s the Law. The VGBA law requires that all public pools and spas have drain covers that comply with the ASME/ANSI A112.19.8 performance standard, or any successor standard, currently ANSI/APSP 16-2011. This standard requires that manufacturers determine a life expectancy and place a permanent mark with “Life: X Years” on each cover to indicate lifespan. Code requires that drain covers need to be replaced every 5 YEARS after the date of installation.
LET BURKETT’S POOL PLASTERING UPDATE YOUR OLD DRAIN COVER
Public pools are required to install compliant drain covers in accordance with manufacturer instructions. To ensure structural integrity and avoid accidents with broken covers, the drain covers that public pools and spas installed five years ago need to be replaced to meet code compliance.
No Need to Drain Your Pool! With our staff of 2 divers, Burkett’s Pool Plastering can assist with meeting all drain code compliant requirements.
